Jocelyn tapped on the back door late that afternoon. “Hi, Annie! Jack told me Lucas is coming home tomorrow.”

“Yeah, you want to come with me to pick him up at LAX? You know what a zoo it is, especially on Friday night.”

She practically jumped up and down. “I’d love to, but do you think it’s safe to leave your parents alone?”

“Good point. Mom’s fine, but I’m not sure about Dad.”

“Maybe I can sit with them, and Jack can go with you to the airport.”

The thought of being alone in a car with Jack for an hour-and-a-half drive to the airport made Anne quake in her flip-flops. “Nah, I’ll be fine on my own.”

She so wanted to do something, just one thing, without needing Jack’s help, but truth was, they all needed him…until Lucas got home.

“He told me to tell you he’s available.” Jocelyn looked so sincere. “Really, he wants to.”

Anne knew she could drive to LAX on her own and get her brother, but did she really want to? It would be so much easier doing it with Jack. Anne fished out her cell phone and sent him a text message.

Truth was, once Lucas got home, they wouldn’t need Jack anymore. He could disappear, and she really wasn’t sure she wanted him to.
